Russells’ announcement on postponed Portsmouth 2020 Symposium.

It is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to postpone the Portsmouth 2020 International Rudimental Drummers’ Symposium to September 2021.

Due to the current situation, restrictions on movement and possible financial instability we feel that an event this year would be compromised and possibly prohibitive for people to attend.

We, the Portsmouth 2020 committee together with SIRD, have agreed that whilst postponement is regrettable, it will ensure the integrity of our events and hopefully mean that #Portsmouth2021 will be as successful and inclusive as we feel it should be.

If you have already paid for your attendance, please email Lionel to discuss options:

SIRD is committed to its goal of bringing drummers together from across the world and is already panning a ‘Virtual Day of Drumming’; continuing to connect us together in the sharing of our stories and traditions.

We trust you will understand this decision and hope you will continue to support your drumming movement wherever you are and as best you can during these unprecedented times.

This page will remain active as we will, in due course, announce dates for next year (plans are already in motion) along with details regarding the ‘Virtual Day of Drumming’.

Until then. Stay safe, look after one another and happy drumming! 🥁

Best regards,

Russell Piner
